Aires'
1/48 scale Heinkel He 162 cockpit set is available online from
Squadron.com
When Trimaster released its 1/48 scale Heinkel He 162 in the late 1980s,
it led a charge toward accurate, highly detailed kits of WWII aircraft
subjects.
Dragon took over the moulds of this and other Trimaster kits, so we
can once again admire this very attractive example of model design.
Dragon's release of the Volksjager still stands up well in
comparison to today's kits. It is therefore perhaps surprising that we
have not seen to many accessories for this kit over the last decade and
a half.
Aires has now released a replacement cockpit for Dragon's 1/48 scale
Heinkel He 162. This set comprises 13 parts in pale cream coloured
resin, a photo-etched fret and instruments printed onto a small clear
acetate sheet. The relatively small parts count reflects the simplicity
of the real machine.
The key item is the cockpit tub, which also incorporates a nicely
detailed wheel well and shrouded 30mm cannon barrels..
The small but well appointed photo-etched set covers the instrument
panel, ejector seat harness and anti-chafing pads, rudder pedals and
some smaller details.
Resin casting quality is very good, with no imperfections noted on my
review sample. The casting attachments should not present a problem, but
take care when removing the slightly chunky block on the bottom of the
seat.
Aires 1/48 scale Heinkel He 162 cockpit will spruce up Dragon's
Volksjager quite nicely.
