Glenn Irvine's models will already be well known to many of
HyperScale's visitors. With his predilection for scratchbuilding, it
should be no surprise that he has now turned his hand to mastering parts
for some very helpful resin accessories. The only surprise is the scale.
Glenn has abandoned Tiny Town - for this project anyway.
Glenn recently presented me with four sets of 1/32 scale propeller
blades for the Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9 and the Messerschmitt Bf 109F, G and
K variants.
These are simple drop-fit replacements for the Hasegawa parts, even
having the locating pins cast in place to help achieve the correct
pitch. Each blade is cast onto a small block. Removal is a simple swipe
with a razor saw or a sharp hobby knife. The parts also have a wedge of
fine flash that needs to be cleaned up. This should be very quickly
achieved.
Each propeller blade type looks very accurate in shape compared to
drawings and photographs, and in the case of the Dora, Gustav and
Kurfurst props are a noticeable improvement over the Hasegawa kit
counterparts. The blades are cast beautifully straight and thin. The Fw
190D-9 blades include collets with nicely cast detail too.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of these accessories is that
nobody else has yet directed their attention to this prominent area of
these popular models. At the recent Melbourne Model Expo, a few 1/32
scale models were fitted with these prop blades and they did look great!
Glenn has now made these propeller blades available under his own
label, Wedgetail, through Aeroworks.
These 1/32 scale Bf 109 and Fw 190D-9 propeller blades are a
remarkable first effort, albeit from a master modeller.
