Ongoing discussion on Plane Talking and other model forums suggests
that some modellers care passionately about accurate details on model
aircraft; some modellers believe equally passionately that a
recognizable outline is perfectly adequate; while many others fall
between the two.
There is no right and wrong in this debate. While there may be rules
for competitions, there are no rules for our hobby as a whole. Indeed,
it is not one hobby - every modeller can have a different interpretation
of what the hobby means to them.
Likewise, of those who do want to correct a model's problems, some
have impressive scratchbuilding skills and the time to apply them, while
others might prefer to buy an after market item.
For modellers who fall into the latter category, Cutting Edge has
released an update set for Trumpeter's 1/32 scale F-105D/F/G kits. The
main elements are a replacement nose cone of improved shape and a
corrected ventral fillet. The parts in my sample are perfectly cast.
Installation of all the parts will be a very simple matter. Indeed,
the nose cone has been cast with a recessed lip to help ensure a
positive connection with the fuselage. The nose cone is slightly more
bulged than the kit part, imparting a noticeable improvement to the
pointy end of the F-105. The ventral fillet is also more accurate than
the somewhat undernourished kit part.
This is a straightforward update set that will help the profile of
Trumpeter's big Thud kits.
Recommended.
