CMK has captured all of the fine detail to be found in the Sabre’s undercarriage bays with this new release.

The set is a compliment to their excellent undercarriage and interior sets and is also designed for the Hasegawa kit and contains 26 resin parts and 6 etched metal parts. Some minor surgery of the kit is required to remove the original kit main wheel bays and the scissors links on the kits undercarriage legs. Some thinning of the fuselage walls and lower wing surfaces will also be required for a more realistic look when the bays are installed. The assembly process is relatively simple from this point on. New nose wheel doors are provided and these appear to be much finer than the Hasegawa kit offerings and in particular the front folding nose leg door.

A comparison of the inner part of the main wheel bay and nose wheel bay does not show a vast difference, the resin parts just have a more 3 dimensional appearance in the castings and this is something that cannot be achieved in a one piece injection moulding. The main wheel bays are a one piece casting and is a vast improvement over the Hasegawa design where the outer area of the bay was a couple of ribs moulded to the inside of the wing. CMK has added the detail that Hasegawa left out. The depth of detail resembles that in pictures that I have of this area.

A very nice finishing touch is provided where all of the scissors links for the undercarriage oleo legs are replaced by realistic looking etched metal parts. The gear and chain that I think rotates the nose leg through 90 degrees as it retracts is also provided in etched metal. The very fine actuators for the main gear and nose gear are provided separately cast in resin and most of these were missing in the Hasegawa mouldings.

The Hasegawa kit looks very nice but with this detail set will look even better.

In summary, another excellent accessory from CMK, but a moderate level of modelling experience is required to install the set.

Highly Recommended.
