FirstLook

Contact Résine latest super detailing set continues their commitment to large scale modelling with an ambitious release destined for Trumpeter's 1/32 scale MiG-3.

This set comprises 13 parts in pale yellow coloured resin, three large photo-etched frets, printed instruments and a masking sheet for the kit canopy.

The resin parts are cast with gorgeous detail. The cockpit includes sidewalls with the bulk of detail already cast in place, a seat with a convincingly presented backrest cushion and shoulder harness in place, and an appropriately busy rear deck. The other resin parts reflect this very high standard. Fabric detail on the control surfaces is excellent; and the wheels are a great improvement over the kit parts.

A new spinner plus corrected propeller blades are also supplied.

The three photo etched frets are large and packed with detail. Photo etched parts include the multi-layer instrument panel, radiator vents and grilles, gear doors, rudder pedals, some lap harness details, main gear oleo scissors, replacement undercarriage doors, radiator face and exit details; plus a very intricate set of flaps which includes full structural detail for the inside trailing edge of the upper wings too.

Where appropriate, the external detail includes fine lines of recessed rivets. These are very subtly rendered and should look great with careful painting and weathering.

Instrument dials are supplied as full colour decals to be sandwiched between the layers of the brass instrument panel.

The final thoughtful touch is the inclusion of a self-adhesive painting mask for the kit canopy. This sheet includes masks for the outside and the inside of the canopy, permitting the most realistic possible painting in this large scale.

Instructions are supplied on four sides of A4 paper, using mutli-colour CAD drawings and brief text in both French and English. The instructions are quite straightforward, as is the overall design and parts breakdown of this impressive detail set.

Conclusion

Trumpeter's 1/32 scale MiG-3 is one of the best releases to date from this Chinese manufacturer, but Contact Résine's multimedia superdetailing set will transform the plastic into a real masterpiece.

Detail is superb, construction does not look difficult, casting is world class and the set addresses several noticeable shortcomings of the donor kit.

If you are planning to build Trumpeter's 1/32 scale MiG-3, you really should consider Contact Résine's multimedia superdetailing set.

Magnifique!

Highly Recommended.
