Late Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-8s and all Fw 190A-9s were fitted with a new 14
bladed cooling fan. This was associated with a more powerful engine.
Aircraft with the new cooling fan were also fitted with a 10mm armoured
cowl ring to replace the earlier version, which was 6.5mm thick. The
same changes can be seen on the final operational Jabo variant -
the Fw 190F-9.
Eagle Editions has released a very simple conversion set to transform
Hasegawa's 1/32 scale Fw 190A-8 to a very late A-8 or an A-9.
Two parts are supplied in grey resin. The cooling fan is cast onto a
wafer of resin which should disappear after a few swipes of sandpaper.
The resin cowl ring has a more substantial block, but a razor saw will
make short work of this too. Once freed from their resin backing, the
new cowl ring and cooling fan should be drop-fit replacements for their
kit counterparts.
If you have a hankering to build a late-war Fw 190A, this will be a
very simple way to do it!
Recommended.
