One of the weaker aspects of Hasegawa's 1/32 scale Fw 190 kits is the simplified tail wheel assembly. Furthermore, if the tail wheel is installed without modification, it protrudes too far from the fuselage. To read a discussion of this issue in more detail, check out Chris Wauchop's Fw 190D-9 article from 2003.

Eagle Editions has now released a resin improvement that addresses both detail and the height of the tail wheel assembly for Hasegawa's 1/32 scale Fw 190A kits. This set may also be suitable for early Doras.

Five parts are supplied in grey resin. The tail wheel itself is cast as a single part with impressive hub detail. The tyre features the accurate fine radial tread and a subtle flat spot. The tail wheel mount is supplied in four parts, and represents a major improvement on Hasegawa's kit parts. The parts breakdown permits the tail wheel strut to be shortened to depict the tail wheel at the exact height that the modeller prefers.

Some preparation work is required to the fuselage interior inside the tail wheel well, but this will not be beyond the scope of any modeller who has used resin accessories before.

Eagle Editions' Fw 190A tail wheel assembly replacement will be a noticeable and worthwhile improvement to Hasegawa's 1/32 scale kits.

Recommended.
