Are you looking for something to arm your 1/32 scale Operation Enduring
Freedom F-14 Bomcat or F/A-18? Look no further, as CAM has just released a set
of resin USN-style GBU-31 JDAMs which will dress up your Cat or Bug. Although
the label on the box states that the set contains a pair of GBU-32s (1000lb
warhead), the instructions correctly identify the contents as the 2000lb GBU-31
version of the JDAM. The set represents the version used by the USN/USMC with
the rough fire retardant ablative coating covering the Mk. 84 warhead.

You get two JDAMs, each consisting of five parts. Cast in light tan resin, the
parts are crisply cast and bubble free. The main parts consist of a one-piece
warhead with a separate tail unit. The strake assembly is molded integrally with
the warhead and features nice detailing on the straps that surround the
underside of the warhead and on the clamps that hold the assembly together. The
rough coating on the warhead is very well done. Note the asymmetric cutouts on
the strakes on either side of where the suspension lugs are attached. This is
correct based on photos and does not indicate that the parts are broken or
damaged. The tail unit is just as nice and correctly has the raised attachment
for each tail fin only on one side of the fin. The remaining parts consist of a
pair of suspension lugs, which have only a thin layer of flash that needs to be
drilled out over the hole in the lug, and the interface that runs on top of the
bomb between the strake assembly and the tail unit.
Overall, this is a very nice and timely release from CAM.
Highly Recommended.
