1/72 Scale Me 262 Detail / Correction Sets
Revell's 1/72 scale Messerschmitt Me 262A single seater and
Me 262B two-seater kits are generally very nice, with good outline, crisply
engraved panel lines and a low price.
The most surprising problem with these kits is the "boxing
in" of the main gear bay. The real aircraft had this area completely open to the
lower fuselage. It is especially surprising that Revell went to the trouble of
inaccurately covering this area because they have also detailed the outside of
the cylindrical cockpit tub.
Some other omissions (for which Revell cannot really be
blamed in this small scale) are the lack of gun bay detail; and fixed
control surfaces, including the leading edge slats which really should be
depicted dropped when the aircraft is on the ground.
High Planes Models has come to the rescue with a brand new
series of detail sets and corrections that will transform your Revell 1/72 scale
Me 262 from a nice little kit into a superdetailed jewel. The following sets are
available:
W7201 Me 262 A-1a Cockpit and Wheel Well
W7202 Me 262 B-1a U1 Cockpits & Wheel Well
W7203 Me 262 Flaps and Slats
W7205 Me 262 Gun Bay
W7208 Me 262 Engine and Wing Mount
Detail on the parts in all these sets is superb, especially
considering their small size. The cockpits are considerably better detailed than
their plastic kit counterparts, and the wheel wells are cleverly engineered for
simple installation and an authentic "look". These cockpit and wheel well sets
should not present a challenge for the average modeller, but care will be
required when removing some of the parts from the larger casting blocks. .
Experience working with small resin parts will be helpful
for the flaps and slats set in particular.
1/72 Scale Fw 190D-9 Nose Improvement Set
High Planes has also released a set that addresses the main
problems with Tamiya's 1/72 scale Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9 - the nose area:
New open cowl flaps, and replacements for the anaemic kit
spinner and the supercharger intake are included in white resin. The cowl flaps
are even detailed on the inside!
All of these sets are produced to a very high standard and
will be warmly welcomed by 1/72 scale Luftwaffe modellers.
The Australian dollar is stronger than it used to be
against the American Greenback, but the prices remain very reasonable at
between USD$8.00 and USD$10.00 each.
Recommended.
