Construction of the kit commences with the nicely detailed engine, and amongst the first tasks is preparing and assembling the exhaust stacks. I have spoken to a modeller who has tackled this job and found it to be less than satisfying. Alignment of each exhaust stack half was difficult, and although the ends are hollowed out, they are still too shallow and really need extra work. This modeller commented that the exhaust stacks were probably the most frustrating aspect of an otherwise fairly trouble free build. Enter Noblekraft. Noblekraft has released a set of twelve individual exhaust stacks. The detail of these resin parts is superb, and they represent a great improvement over the kit parts with correctly moulded raised and recessed seam lines on each stack. The subtle contours of the stacks are convincingly captured.
Preparation will be a snap - almost literally. The parts are attached to resin sprues similar to those of an injection moulded kit, and each stack can be quickly removed at the base. A swipe with a sanding stick is the only additional preparation required before the stacks are added to the engine. Noblekraft's 1/32 scale P-40B/C exhausts will be a very attractive and labour saving enhancement to Trumpeter's big kit.
