J. Rutman Productions has released a 1/32 scale backdate for
Trumpeter's big P-38 Lightning to the earlier E, F and G versions.
For a fairly dramatic change to the overall look of the Lightning,
this is quite a simple set. Six parts in cream-coloured resin and one in
vacform plastic comprise:
-
New lower engine nacelles (two parts)
-
New smaller boom intakes (four parts)
-
One curved windscreen (one vacform part)
The resin parts are all very well cast, and cleanup will not be
difficult. Thoughtfully, the casting block is behind the engine nacelle
resin part, not on the larger horizontal face.
Some modification to the kit will be required, but nothing beyond
modellers who have already tackled a resin conversion or two.
The curved windscreen looks good in shape and is quite clear.
Jerry Rutman's 1/32 scale P-38E/F/G conversion will deliver a big
result for relatively minor surgery.
Recommended to experienced modellers.
