Loon Models continues to produce excellent quality resin replacement and
conversion parts in both 1/72 and 1/48 scale.
These new releases will allow modelers to get more variations out of the
popular Tamiya P-51 kits. The 1/48 conversion will allow you to make the P-51 C
or a B model that was retro-fitted with the fin fillet. The 1/72 conversion will
permit the modeling of the early D-5 without the fillet, such as “LOU IV”.
(Note: Loon Models also offers an early D conversion for the 1/48 Tamiya P-51 D
as LO48202 at $19.50 USD)

The parts are designed to simply replace the kit’s fuselage parts. No cutting
of the kit or the resin is required.
Since there are no molding blocks, the parts have the look and feel of high
quality injection molded plastic. There is just an inconsequential amount of
flash on the rudder. The resin is very thin with delicate panel lines. The side
wall detail is adequately molded, but some may want to replace it with more
finally detailed parts. The attachment point for the tail wheel is molded in
place, as are the tail gear doors.
If you don’t want to do, or don’t like to do, cut and paste modifications, I
highly recommend these sets to anyone who want to get the most out of their
Tamiya P-51.
