Quickboost has released its first boxed set - a set of
replacement engines and cowlings for the new 1/72 scale Italeri A-26K
Counter Invader.
Early reviews of Italeri's A-26K have noted the poor
detail of the kit engines, and the atypical nacelles fitted to the
model. Quickboost's engine update addresses both of these issues with
complete replacement engines and nacelles.
The shape and detail of the resin parts are greatly
superior to their kit counterparts in terms of both accuracy and detail.
Quickboost supplies 14 parts in grey resin.
The engines are quite incredible. They are cast in one
piece each, incorporating the complex design of two rows plus base,
crankcase and beautifully fine cooling fin detail on each cylinder.
Magnetos and distributors are supplied separately. Exhaust ejector
detail on the rear nacelle parts are very crisply rendered too.
Detail on all of these parts, but the engines in
particular, would be very good even in 1/48 scale. In 1/72 scale they
are little short of astounding.
Care will be required when removing the four nacelle
parts from their casting blocks. A fine razor saw will be the best tool
for this job.
The only omission is pushrods and ignition harnesses for
the engines. The dedicated superdetailer will be able to add these from
fine rod and wire.
Quickboost has also separately released a set of eight
gun barrels for the Italeri A-26K Invader. These are also perfectly
cast, and will nicely enhance the prominent gun nose of the kit.
Let us hope that Quickboost also have wheels, a
replacement fin and a two-pilot cockpit waiting in the wings for future
release too!
Highly Recommended.
