Some
of my earliest experiences with resin parts included
products from True Details.
When I first discovered the True Details resin cockpit
for Mauve 1/48 scale P-40N, it started me on a quest for
detail that continues today.
True Details resin cockpits are quite simple in parts
breakdown but offer superior detail compared to kit parts
that they replace. This brand included the first harness
moulded on to the resin seat that I had ever seen. The low
price was another advantage to this modeller who was still
experimenting with techniques after recently returning to
the hobby.
True Details newest cockpit release shares the same
attributes as its predecessors.
Hobbycraft's 1/48 scale P-59 Airacomet kits are
acknowledged as some of their best releases to date, but the
cockpits are quite spartan.
The 1/48 scale True Details P-59A Airacomet replacement
cockpit contains eight parts in cream coloured resin. These
will add a great detail to this neglected area of the kit.
The parts comprise the cockpit floor, sidewalls, seat
(with moulded-on harness), gunsight, trim wheel and canopy
sill. Sidewalls are thinly cast with good detail, including
an oxygen hose. The seat is cast onto the mounting frame. A
thin wafer of flash will need to be removed between the
frame and the top of the seat. The instrument panel is
moulded as one piece with the rudder pedals and centre
console. It features simple dial details in the recessed
instruments. These should be quite easy to paint to good
effect.

Smaller parts will be quickly removed from their casting
blocks and readied for use, but the floor is attached to a
fairly substantial piece of resin that will need a few
minutes' attention with a razor saw.
There is a huge range of choice for after-market products
in today's market. True Details cockpits represent a serious
improvement in detail over kit parts, with simple
installation and at a budget price.
True Details 1/48 scale P-59A Airacomet cockpit will be a
very handy accessory for the Hobbycraft kit.
Recommended.
