True Details' 1/48 scale P-47C-5
through D-10 cockpit is
available online from Squadron.com
True Details' latest cockpit received for review covers
the P-47C-5 through to the P-47D-10 in 1/48 scale and is
designed to fit Tamiya's P-47 'Razorback' Thunderbolt.
Enclosed in the familiar 'True Details' packaging are 13
parts in a light cream coloured resin. All the parts in my
sample were flawlessly cast with no deformities or air
bubbles present. Parts that are supplied include:
-
Complete
cockpit floor with a molded front firewall.
-
Rear cockpit armour
plating and seat attachment wall.
-
Pilots seat with molded
harnesses.
-
3 Styles of Gunsight and
the associated mounting brackets.
-
Rudder pedals.
-
Control stick.
-
Instrument panel.
-
2 complete cockpit
sidewalls.
-
Flap equalizer moulding
for fitting to the cockpit floor.
-
Control Rods.
Colour notes for painting are supplied on the printed
instructions as well as some facts regarding the use of the
differing gunsight types provided.
A hint for fitting of the set to the donor kit and
removal of molded on sidewall ribs is also given.
One area where caution will be needed will be in the
removal of the pilot's seat from the casting block. The
seat's rear backing plate protrudes below the base of the
seat so it will not be a case of simply cutting it off and
sanding it flat. Use care in this area. You have been
warned.!
I was unable to perform any dry fitting to the Tamiya kit
as it does not currently reside in my 'stash' but I am sure
most modelers using this set will not have any major
problems.
